With Super Bowl LIX just around the corner, excitement is building up on campus as Stags gear up to celebrate the big game in their own ways! Whether it’s gathering with friends to cheer on their favorite team, indulging in delicious food or getting pumped for Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show, it’s going to be an entertaining Super Bowl!
If students are looking for a fun atmosphere to watch the game, RA Mike is hosting a watch party in the Loyola Commons Lounge at 7:00 p.m. Also, a lot of students gather in lounges to watch the big game.
The Tully will also be celebrating the game with classic football snacks and food! Check it out from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Super Bowl Sunday.
As the game approaches, one of the most exciting questions on campus is: Who will the Stags be cheering for this year? The Kansas City Chiefs are playing the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans and there are definitely picked opinions on these teams. Because the Chiefs have been in the Super Bowl for now the third year in a row, a lot are tired of seeing them there.
Even though the Eagles have their fair share of haters, a lot of Stags represent Philly and are thrilled to see their team in the championship.
First-year Kiley Raum is a huge Eagles fan and she says, “I’m super excited to see them back in the Super Bowl, especially since their last game against the Chiefs didn’t end in their favor.”
First-year Ava Helmke agrees and is “hoping we can have a repeat of 2018!”
Besides the game, students are buzzing with anticipation for this year’s halftime performance. Kendrick Lamar is set to take the stage with a star-studded surprise– SZA! I am a huge SZA fan, so when I found out she would join him on stage I was thrilled. Crossing my fingers that they will sing “All The Stars.”
Junior Christian Sehlmeyer is a huge Kendrick fan and is also looking forward to the halftime show. He said, “I am excited to see him perform this year, especially since he performed so well at Super Bowl LVI.”
While the halftime performance is sure to be spectacular, Super Bowl Sunday is not complete without some game-day treats to snack on between commercials. With a lot of students hosting their own parties, here are a few must-try treats to take game day to the next level.
Football-Shaped Sugar Cookies
You can’t go wrong with a football-themed cookie, especially one you can make super easily! Find your favorite sugar cookie recipe and shape them into cute little footballs. Then, decorate them with icing and maybe a little glitter to make the perfect Super Bowl treat!
S’mores Nachos
Nachos are an essential part of any watch party, but why not make them more fun by creating s’mores nachos? Just grab some graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate chips and enjoy. It’s a little messy, but so worth it! Here is the recipe.
Charcuterie Board
A charcuterie board is also a game day classic that will feed the whole team! You can prepare the board with whatever kind of cheeses, meats or vegetables you like and can even spice it up with a fun football cheese ball! This is a quick and easy snack that you can really get creative with.
Whether students are pumped for the game day snacks, the halftime show or the actual game itself, this year’s Super Bowl is sure to be a memorable one. Happy watching!
