As the 2024 season approaches, the Fairfield Men’s Lacrosse team has a clear vision: win the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championship. The Stags are committed to a process-oriented approach, focusing on daily improvement, discipline, and executing the small details that will lead to success. After a strong fall that included a series of competitive scrimmages, the team feels confident in the work they’ve put in and is ready to take the next step.
Coach Andrew Baxter and the coaching staff emphasize the importance of keeping the focus small—getting better every day, developing chemistry and executing game plans effectively. With a blend of experienced returners and impactful newcomers, Fairfield is poised to compete at a high level in one of the toughest conferences in college lacrosse.
With such a young team, they will have to rely on some key players from last year who will have to step up in roles they have never played before for the Stags.
One of the top Stags who will have to step up is midfielder Will Consoli, who has been a cornerstone of the offense and will be counted on as a leader and playmaker. After showcasing his skills in 2024 with 26 goals and 14 assists, accumulating 40 points for the season, the Stags’ attack will rely on him heavily.
Another returner who will have a big role is defenseman Julian Radossich, who is the anchor of the defense, providing stability and toughness in the backline. After his impressive freshman season and winning the CAA Rookie of the Year, his 40-ground ball season will be crucial as the team looks to shut down top offensive threats in the CAA.
Jake Gilbert has proven himself as an offensive weapon, consistently putting up points and giving the Stags a dynamic scoring presence. Other returners such as Keagen Lynch, Eli Adams, and Owen Hirsch have all looked strong heading into the season and will play significant roles in Fairfield’s success. Hirsch, in particular, has had an impressive preseason and is expected to make a big impact.
Fairfield has bolstered its roster with a strong group of graduate transfers, adding depth and experience to the team. Luke Fisher, Jack Savarese, and Charlie McFadden bring valuable experience and leadership. Their ability to step in and contribute immediately will be key as the Stags navigate the challenges of the season. With a relatively young core, these veteran additions will provide stability and mentorship, helping the team grow and develop throughout the year.
The CAA is one of the most competitive conferences in men’s lacrosse, and Fairfield will have to battle against some of the top programs in the country.
“The main goal in the CAA is to be able to compete with schools like Delaware and Towson. They have combined to win the past five CAA championships. So if we can compete with them, we can make a run for the chip,” Coach Baxter said, commenting on the strength of the conference and what the Stags will have to do to compete in this tough league.
Every conference game is a challenge, but if the Stags can rise to the occasion against these top opponents, they will position themselves well for a postseason run.
Fairfield enters the season with three primary objectives: “Secure a CAA playoff win, win the CAA championship, and if we can accomplish these goals, then we will compete for the NCAA title,” Coach Baxter stated. He emphasized how each of these goals will help the players stay focused and make this season their best one yet.
With senior captains Luke Okupski, Matt Rice, and Rory Thompson leading the squad, gaining experience will be crucial. The team understands that this season is about more than just results—it’s about growing together and preparing for long-term success.
The Stags’ coaching staff loves how this group has been a joy to work with. The culture surrounding the team is strong, and the players’ passion for the game makes the job easier.
“The best part about this team is the way they enjoy playing lacrosse. Their energy, work ethic, and commitment to getting better every day make coaching them incredibly rewarding,” said Fairfield’s coaching staff.
With a mix of young talent, key returners, and impactful transfers, the Stags have all the pieces to make a statement in the CAA. If they can continue to trust the process and grow as a team, this could be a season to remember for Fairfield Men’s Lacrosse.
