Spring break falls on March 8 and ends on March 15. As students, this means the weather is getting warmer, less windy and the sun sets later. Winter in New England was quite tough but we are in the home stretch, and spring break is the perfect mark to celebrate the transition!
Spring break is a time to get off campus and go home, or go on a tropical vacation to get away from the wavering weather! I decided to ask a few Stags to see what special plans they have for the break coming this week!
On Fizz, a college student social media app, I asked my fellow Stags who was vacationing for spring break. I received 920 “No” and 480 “Yes” answers, so it is safe to say that most students are excited to take a load off and lounge at home for the week.
While most students are able to go home, a few spring sports must reside on campus to train during the week, one of them being rowing. Despite the need to stay, first-year rower Ava Bistoff is staying positive. She said, “because rowing is a spring sport I have to stay but it will be so fun to spend the week with my team and get out on the water!” Being a D1 athlete can be challenging but it’s the little things that count, and with the weather heating up the team will start their water practices!
Other students are traveling but staying within the Fairfield community while doing so! First-year Alyssa Spagnuolo, a manager for the women’s basketball team, will be traveling to Atlantic City with the team as they embark on the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship! She was thrilled as she shared, “I am so excited to have the opportunity to travel with the women’s basketball team over spring break to the MAAC championship.” Spagnuolo resides in California, so going home was not in her plans, so going to Atlantic City will hopefully be an awesome experience for March. She went on to say, “This is going to be a cool experience and I can’t wait to be a part of it!”
Along with Spagnuolo, first-year Dylan Lounsbury is joining a Fairfield community over spring break as he travels with the Humanitarian Action club to Abilene, Texas for a service project. “I am very excited to attend the H.A. Club Spring Immersion trip to Abilene Texas. To be able to work with refugees and be able to hear their stories will be a truly impactful experience and I am excited to help wherever I can in the camp.” Lounsbury will be embarking on the trip to help refugees find comfort and shelter– a great cause for the Humanitarian Action Club to support.
While it is incredible to see a variety of students supporting the Fairfield community by staying, traveling and doing service, plenty of students have decided to go home for the week. Kelly Hyland is thrilled to go home to New York and so is Maeve Cronin as she will get back to her job for the break in Massachusetts.
Spring break should be a time of relaxation before finals in May, and as the weather transitions, it should be spent doing stuff you love. I greatly appreciate the students and friends I was about to interview about their break, and wish every Stag a happy Spring Break!
