The Fairfield University women’s club field hockey team will face Quinnipiac University on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at Fairfield University in what will be its final game of the spring season.
Fairfield enters the matchup with momentum after a dominant 5–0 win over Sacred Heart University on April 12. The result mirrored its previous meeting on Nov. 9, when Fairfield also secured a 5–0 victory.
This confidence is carrying into the weekend.
“I think we’re all feeling really confident going into Sunday,” said Sydney Dalton. “Our win against Sacred Heart definitely gave us a lot of confidence. That game showed what we look like when we’re really connected and playing as a team, especially being able to score early and keep the momentum going. At the same time, we know that Quinnipiac is going to be a tougher matchup, so we’re not getting too comfortable. The focus now is on bringing the same energy, staying disciplined and making sure we play our game again.”
Despite the excitement, the finality of the spring season is not lost on the team.
“It’s definitely bittersweet that this is our last game of the spring,” Dalton added. “I’m sad to see it end, but I’m really excited to step into a senior role next fall and continue building with this team.”
The Stags have historically had the upper hand in this matchup. Since their first meeting on Sept. 18, 2022 — a 4–1 Fairfield win — the team has gone 4-0-1 against Quinnipiac. Recent results include wins of 3–0 (Oct. 29, 2023), 4–1 (April 14, 2024) and 5–1 (Sept. 28, 2025), with the only blemish being a 1–1 tie on Sept. 22, 2024.
After a slow start to the spring season, losing to the University of Massachusetts, 1–4, the Stags showed clear improvement in their second game. Offensively, the team played with a faster pace and greater efficiency, creating early scoring chances and finishing effectively. The midfield contributed by maintaining possession and linking play between the attack and defense.
Defensively, Fairfield took a significant step forward. The back line stayed compact, limited opportunities and secured a shutout after conceding four goals in the spring season opener.
Fairfield holds a 5-3-1 overall record across the fall and spring seasons, demonstrating balance on both ends of the field.
Quinnipiac plays a structured, possession-focused style. Fairfield will need to apply pressure early, limit turnovers and stay well positioned to control the pace.
With momentum from its most recent win and a strong track record in the matchup, Fairfield enters Sunday’s game in a favorable position. The team will look to close out its spring season on a high note.
