The thought of this notorious holiday can either bring happiness and excitement, or the direct opposite. While entering Hallmark stores may overturn some of your stomachs, recognize that Valentine’s Day is not only for dates and couples. Ah, I’ll never forget the sheer joy my roommates and I felt two years ago when to top off all going out to dinner together, we were accosted by the creepy portrait company to “practice” on us. Wow those pictures came out horrendous.
In all seriousness, try not to get down today if you think there’s nobody out there that wants you to be his or her Valentine. Chances are, you are wrong, and things just aren’t working out during this particular time.
Believe me, the best of us have experienced a lonely V-Day. And just think, it’s during those Valentine’s Days that forces you to think about all the people in your life for which you are truly grateful, despite the lack of a “Valentine.” So get psyched for the day in other ways. Buy your family and friends little Snoopy Valentines, for example, they’ll be really thankful. Or better yet, let your friend from home’s Valentine that you received in the mail brighten your day. But whatever you do, don’t let someone makes pseudo plans with you that will only be a disappointment when they fall through later.
If you do have the typical plans for tomorrow, be sure not to let them get out of hand. My advice is to approach Valentine’s Day as any other day, just slightly more special. The idea of just spending some quality time with each other should be enough, and it’s crucial not to go overboard, especially with cutesy stuff (girls). And guys, even though you may think it’s lame, and rightfully so, make that extra little effort. I can guarantee she’ll appreciate it.
In the end, anything that shows you two care about each other is the most important. However you may choose to do so, take time out and strive for this. I said, I personally would be happy playing Vice City, or even Solitaire, as long as it means hanging out together, and I meant it.
So whether you are flying solo or have a Valentine, be sure to make it a special day, but also to realize that it isn’t the only special day. We have 364 others a year for that as well.
