Cheers to the University for cancelling classes this Tuesday in response to the worst snowstorm of this young century. Snow removal crews worked in the early morning and well into the night, even when the school was closed Monday, in order to stay ahead of the storm. Although parking was a problem because of the snowdrifts, paths were clear and open on Tuesday for students to walk freely around campus.
Boos to the Ham Channel for the gaffe which prevented the showing of the FUSA debates last weekend. Instead of showing the entire debates repeatedly over the weekend, only the first three candidates of eight total were shown before the loop restarted. The Ham Channel is a vital campus organization, and informing student voters of their FUSA election choices is one of its most important duties of the year. Because of this mixup, one can only wonder how less-informed students in this year’s elections will be.
Cheers to the Security Department for dealing graciously and effectively with the new precautions taken by the university with respect to heightened safety on campus. With a limited staff of officers working higher 12 hour shifts to accomodate the new precautions, the entire department has dealt with the new measures in stride, and as a result the Fairfield community is a safer place as a result.
Boos to the complete closing of the mailroom and Stag on Tuesday. It would have been nice for the students on campus to have access to food beyond the tepid repeat offerings of the cafeteria. Furthermore, the complete lack of mail service for three days surely was problematic for some students.
