The women’s golf team resumes play this spring after nearly five months of off season training.
Their last time out, the women placed sixth out of ten teams at the Sacred Heart Invitational, played on the par-72 Great River Golf Club in Milford, Conn. The Stags shot a two-day total of 713 in late Oct.
Newcomer Alicia Esposito ’10 placed 10th overall after following her opening round of 88 with an 80, a team-low.
Sophomore Courtney Richardson finished 12th with a 170 stroke total. Senior Liz McCabe was able to finish in 25th with a two-day 180. Lynze Murphy ’09, 42nd place (201), and Krista Duval ’09, 43rd place (202) rounded out the team’s effort.
Head Coach Len Roberto; at the helm in his second season as the women’s coach, looking to improve on a second place finish in the MAAC Championships last year.
Richardson finished fifth in the MAACs last year with a three-day total of 257, +41 over par. The team shot 1,056 for the weekend in Orlando, Fl. behind only Siena College.
This season the Stags play several events around the country. From Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach, SC to local courses in West Hartford, Conn., and Mamroneck, NY, the Stags are competing up and down the East Coast.
They have also added additional tournaments in preparation for the MAAC Championship, such as the University of Hartford Invitational.
With Esposito coming in and teaming up with the returning golfers such as Richardson, the Stags should have a good chance of performing well all season, culminating with the MAAC Championships.
