Playwrights amongst us

Student actors set the stage ablaze, bringing to life the works of four fledgling playwrights this past weekend as part of Theatre Fairfield's "New Works Festival". "The talent level here is far above the norm for undergraduate writers and they have feel and a ear for dialogue and theatre," said Kent Brown.

Letter to the editor: Power- The real price of war

To the Editor: Power is an elusive commodity. But like the dollar, it is essentially the currency of politics. A state must secure it, build it up, whenever possible, but invest it with the greatest possible care. As a teacher of international relations, I consider myself a student of power politics, a realist with regard to power's value and uses.

To the Editor: I am writing this letter in response to Fairfield University's decision to cut the hockey program last Thursday. This decision came as a shock to everyone on and around campus with the exception of a distinct few. The decision was headed up by Father Kelley and his so called "Board of Trustees.

Speaker clarifies Israeli-Palestinian conflict

As tension continues to grow between the United States and Iraq, the diplomatic talks towards peace between Israel and Palestine administrated by the U.S. have almost come to a complete standstill. Ronald Young, executive director of the U.S. Interreligious Committee for Peace in the Middle East (USICPME), recently visited Fairfield University to share his views on the passive role taken by the United States in the last couple of years towards peace between Israel and Palestine.

Editorial: One year later, are we any safer?

A year after helicopters swirled in the air over the quad and CNN interrupted its national coverage to show the world a hostage situation on our campus, not much has changed in the way of security. Academic buildings are wide open nearly all of the time. Gates may close but pedestrians easily can enter by simply walking around the gates.

Hate messages found in library bathroom

Several racial comments were found written in the men's bathroom in the lower level of the Library this past Sunday, Feb. 2. At around 7:30 p.m., the security office was notified by Patti Blatt, a library staff member, that a student had reported the racial graffiti.

Fairfield rejects birth control on campus

Even from the parking lot of Regis Hall, the debate surrounding abortion is evident. In the fourth floor window a glaring stop sign declares, "Stop abortion now." On a nearby car, a purple bumper sticker states pro-choice sentiments. Sexually active men and women seeking condoms, as well as women seeking other forms of contraceptives find themselves at a loss on Catholic campuses.

Students soured over study abroad experiences

When most college students think about going abroad to study, they think about new friends, sightseeing, and probably a little more partying than usual. Most students don't expect to run into major problems while they're traveling. Like most, Dana Tompkins, '04 went to Florence last semester expecting to have only positive experiences.

Online voting unavailable as election nears

In an effort to increase voter turnout in FUSA elections, Student Body President Karen Donoghue, '03, put in a push for the elections to be held online via Fairfield's Campus Pipeline service. Due to complications, however, students must make their way this year to the lobby of the Barone Campus Center to vote.

Tuesday, February 4 1:08 p.m. - Hub caps were stolen from a vehicle in the Regis parking lot. The case is under investigation. Wednesday, February 5 12:03 a.m. - A lamp that lines a path which leads from Claver to the Village parking lot was found smashed and broken.
