Ahh, the Seagrape, that wonderful place where everybody knows your name…and sometimes you wish they didn’t.
But who could ask for a better college bar? Fridays when I park my car, it will stay in the same place until Monday morning when I try to remember where I parked it. Roughly 300 of us beach residents live in walking distance.
When we go out, most of the time the Grape is where we end up.
If you are a true champion, your night begins in the afternoon-it’s buy one, get one free until 8 p.m. Several heroes, who shall go un-named, stay from happy hour until last call. You know who you are.
But for the rest of the regular patrons, rarely do you show up before 10:00, usually around 11:00. You get a great mix of people there-townies, drunks, chicks, drunk chicks, meatheads, preppies, guinz, thugz, hippies, weirdos and worst of all, juniors.
When you do arrive, it’s a matter of “picking your poison” (alcohol is a poison, and should not be used when driving, operating heavy machinery, etc).
By far the most popular drink is a wonderful elixir known as 180 and Vodka. It can make or break anyone’s night. It’s also great after a rough day when you just want to turn on the “auto-pilot.”
Other popular drinks, if you’re a chick, include: vodka tonic and vodka cranberry. For the guys, the 180 works well, along with $1 bottles, $1 drafts, $2 Schaffer’s, and whatever else we can afford.
But what does the night consist of? You go in, get a drink, and you can 1) get a table, 2) play darts, 3) rock the jukebox, 4) run “laps” around the bar, or 5) stand there and be seen.
It’s hard though to stand in any area without being around someone you know. This can sometimes make it harder to become “closer” to someone you don’t know. Bad blood, rooster-blocking, gossip and booze can all make for an interesting night.
A few final thoughts…if you’re gonna fight, the Grape is not the place to do it. Freshmen, sorry about Key West.
Sophomores, stick with Russell’s. Juniors, you’ll have your time.
Seniors, what the heck? Where have you been? There have been some sad nights recently where we’ve had poor representation. Get on the ball, it’s our last semester ever.
