The early bird catches the ball: Spring athletes have unusual practice hours this winter

Its 5:30 a.m. and alarms across campus are buzzing to signal the start of the day. Yes, that's A.M. as in very early in the morning, when it's still dark out, unbelievable early and in the wee hours of the day when most of the campus is still and quiet. Varsity athletes from several teams, wiping the sleep from their eyes, are getting dressed and trudging through the cold and snow to their early morning practices.

Girls, it’s time to infiltrate the weight room

There must be some new unwritten rule stating that women cannot work out with men. Women-only gyms have become very popular. Even in the co-ed gyms, there are classes and cardio rooms just for women. Hands and eyes off, you guys. Even the RecPlex has jumped on the bandwagon.

Investigation of Men’s Basketball Team continues

The investigation of the alleged violations of NCAA regulations by the Fairfield University Men's Basketball Team, published by the Connecticut Post in August, does not look like it will come to a close anytime soon. The investigation has been very slow and no one seems to be talking about it.

Treatment of juveniles in prison system insufficient

Beaten as a child, she dropped out of school and ran away from home at age 11. Now almost 20, Myra is serving 50 years to life in a California state prison - and has a young child whom she is permitted to see only once a year. One of 15 randomly chosen juvenile prisoners chosen to participate in a documentary titled "Juvies," Myra was a victim of domestic abuse.

The Alternate Routes please crowd at Quick Center

As Tim Warren and Eric Donnelly took the stage at the Quick Center last Thursday evening, they were met with an uproarious applause. The Fairfield alum returned for a concert with their band The Alternate Routes for an evening of music, as well as an evening with familiar faces.

Breathe, it will be alright. Now, I am a working woman, and am more than happy to impart my words of wisdom on the wary ways of the working world.

Rowing on its way on up

As one of the newest club sports at Fairfield, the men's crew team looks to it's novice squad as future leaders and as a possible foundation for a competitve program. This year's team is led by tri-captains, Jeff Dunn, '05, Brian Labelle, '05 and Frank Marx, 04'.
