Letter to the editor: Alumnus disgusted by Fairfield U loan scandal

I am a recent graduate of Fairfield University (class of 2005) working in the finance industry. My company has recently become involved in the student lending business due to the recent implosion in the industry. When I say implosion, I refer to scandal, a scandal that unfortunately has involved our school, Fairfield University.

Remember back when you were in elementary school there was that spoiled brat who would try to prove he was better than you in all ways? Either he got more presents from Santa, received a higher grade on his vocabulary test or went on a better summer vacation.

Facebook. FB. "The Book." Regardless of what we call it, we are all mildly obsessed. Don't deny it, you know you check yours at least five times a day and possibly get your notifications sent to your e-mail and/or cell phone. It's how you passed the long hours at your nine-to-fiver this summer while pretending to be of some use, and how you put off writing that paper for the third day in a row.

Facebook is the epicenter of our existence as college students. If it isn't your homepage, it probably should be because it's everyone's most visited site. My excuse is that I check my e-mail a lot. Whatever, it makes me feel better about myself. Things are getting a little out of control with the applications.

New at FU: Aimee Tiu

Aimee Tiu is the new director of Academic and Disability Support Services. Her office, located in the Kelley Center, runs disability assessment, accommodation and support, providing all students and visitors with disabilities with access to a variety of programs and services at Fairfield University.
