Millie Miljkovic, the 6′ 3” power forward from Yugoslavia, finally has a chance to see some Stag action. She was sidelined last season due to NCAA regulations, after transferring from Jacksonville University.

So far she has made an appearance in all six of this year’s games averaging 21 minute per game, and is contending for a regular starting position in the lineup. She has put up some impressive stats in the first six games averaging 6.3 PPG and grabbing 27 rebounds overall. Miljkovic is pleased with her performance, especially the Siena game where she led the team with 13 points.

“My best game was against Siena. I was happy with my performance, but I would like to more consistent and put up those kind of numbers every game,” Miljkovic said.

Head coach Dianne Nolan says Miljkovic gives the Stags a strong presence under the boards with her incredible size.

“Millie has given us a big post presence in the paint this year,” Nolan said. “I expect Millie to give us more rebounding strength and score on the block.”

Playing in the states has been a positive experience for Miljkovic. She remarks, “I am much happier in Connecticut and playing for Fairfield. My teammates and the coaching staff are terrific.”

As far as adaptations to the new basketball program she says that she hasn’t faced anything too difficult to handle. Basketball has given Miljkovic the opportunity to see the country and play at some exciting venues including the Arena at Harbor Yard. “I love the new arena. The environment is great. There could be more student support, but on any given night there are more fans than Alumni Hall could ever provide for.”

Nolan says Miljkovic needs to improve on the consistency of her game as she gets better acclimated with the Stags playing style during the year.

“She [Millie] has at times shown solid play. It needs to happen for longer stretches in the game with more consistency,” Nolan said. “She is getting accustomed to the fast pace of the game. She will become a very good player for us.”
