Season 29 of “The Bachelor” premiered on ABC on Monday, Jan. 27. This season is following the story of Grant Ellis and his search for love. With 25 women competing for Grant’s attention, you know each episode will be interesting!
Ellis, a former college and professional basketball player, who is originally from New Jersey, has actually spent his college years in New Haven, Connecticut at Albertus College—only 30 minutes up the road from Fairfield!
The premiere started with heart-warming moments between Grant and his family, one of them being his choice to give the “first impression rose” to his grandma. After being a contender on Jenn’s season of “The Bachelorette,” Grant shares with his family that he feels emotionally ready to find his wife.
As Grant awaits his future prospects in the first half of the episode, “The Bachelor” host Jesse Palmer introduces viewers to the many possibilities this season.
Most ladies entered in the typical fashion: arriving in “The Bachelor” limo with their corny one-liners. Others decided to have fun with their entrances to catch Grant’s recognition. Juliana and Alli Jo wanted to share their Italian culture with Grant: Juliana gave Grant a cannoli and Alli Jo pulled up with a white jeep and heart-shaped pizza.
Litia brought a bejeweled basketball as a symbol of Grant’s love for basketball. Vicky, who is from Las Vegas, came in hot with a sign that read “Viva Las Vicky”.
In an attempt to make a distinctive entrance, Alexe brought her Canadian farm life to the Bachelor mansion by bringing a real llama to impress Grant. Many of the women were scared to be around the llama. Crazily enough, her llama entrance and unique personality led her to receive the first impression rose of the season.
The ladies all strutted into “The Bachelor” mansion wearing their most luxurious dresses. The most popular dress attire for this premiere was bold sparkle or classic silk gowns.
Chloie, a New York model, was eye-catching in her red dress and “ruby red slippers” to capture her Kansas roots. Carolina, a public relations producer from Puerto Rico, wore a sheer strapless dress with a sequined black and white “web pattern” that attests to her flamboyant personality. Allyshia, an interior designer from Tampa, had a simple but daring approach by wearing a satin, white dress with a sash scarf to hint at wedding vibes.
In the later portion of the episode, the ladies in the mansion were shocked when they saw Grant’s sister Taylor walk in hours after all the arrivals. Taylor shared sentimental photos of younger Grant and stories of their childhood. An appearance of a sibling on night one is rare in Bachelor nation history.
In an online Fairfield community poll, the stags are split in their choice to watch this season of the Bachelor or not. Out of 1,083 Fizz votes, only 32% of Fairfield students are intending on following Grant’s journey, meanwhile, 68% have voted “no”. First Year Maddie Weilage has shared why she chose “no”. “I am not watching The Bachelor this season because there are new love and dating shows that are more of interest to me like Love Island. Also, the bachelor is a show that’s been going on for many seasons and the plot is starting to repeat itself making it less interesting.”
If you need a break from studies, an outlet away from the winter blues, or a show to watch with your friends, tune into Grant’s season of The Bachelor every Monday on ABC at 8 p.m.!
