Fairfield Beach: The east coast’s own Laguna

The recipe for Laguna Beach is relatively simple: beautiful blonde (and brunette) boy-crazy girls, athletic guys who look like they fell out of a J-Crew catalogue, some popped collars and a beach. Sounds like Fairfield to me. Why not bring the east coast some reality show love, and bring the cameras to Fairfield? Sure, watching immature high school kids create more drama then a Janet Jackson halftime show is great; but I think it's time MTV upped the ante and brought in some collegiate action.

Students and faculty at Fairfield are speaking out against reinstating a military draft, an idea that was proposed by U.S. Representative Charles Rangel (D-NY). Sophomore Jeannette Symonds has very strong feelings about the possibility of Congress instituting a military draft.

Beer pong vs. beirut: Two students sound off on the name of the game

The name is pong! According to urbandictionary.com, beer pong is defined as a drinking game that involves beer and pingpong paraphernalia. The object of the game is to throw pingpong balls across a table into opponents' half-filled cups of beer. Sounds like the game too many people on this campus erroneously refer to as beirut.

Have you ever been caught participating in activities forbidden by Public Safety? Maybe you consumed an alcoholic beverage underage or hosted a party illegally? Whatever the transgression, the resulting fines have students up in arms. But according to Dean of Students Thomas Pellegrino, the Toys for Tots program and the eighth annual Teddy Bears with Love Drive are offering students an alternative.

‘Fear Factor’ comes to Fairfield

While most viewers gagged and cringed while watching the popular NBC show "Fear Factor," a select group of Fairfield students were just itching for the chance to participate in such a competition. On Saturday night, 10 Fairfield students got a shot to prove they would do anything for a hundred-dollar Visa cash card or a fifty-dollar gift basket of Fairfield apparel.

Some students stopped worrying about their G.P.A. the day they opened their college acceptance letters. But Chelsea Reichert '10 thinks the dreaded decimal shouldn't be forgotten. "Good grades are important. Parents are paying for their kids to go to school, and they want to see good grades," she said.

Election Day promises big deals

Despite the ignorance and apathy of Fairfield students in the field of politics, the midterm election of 2006 will have a huge impact on the direction of our government until the conclusion of the Bush administration. As the election draws near and I continue to be bombarded by slandering television ads, I couldn't help but think back to the absurdity of the debate between Diane Farrell and Christopher Shays in the Quick Center.
