Jocelyn Touchette '09 always knew she wanted to go to France. When she found out that the Groupe ESC Rouen School was specific to business majors, she knew the France study abroad program was a perfect fit for her. With a double major in human resource management and French, she would be able to take classes in both major areas, as well as explore the culture of the historic place she had always hoped to visit.

When University photographer Jean Santopatre wanted to make changes in her photojournalism course, she remembered how much students had learned while she served as co-leader of mission trips. She decided to bring such an experience a little closer to Fairfield.

Except for special events, the brown building that houses Fairfield's Jesuit population has become increasingly quiet over the years as the number of Jesuits in the Fairfield community continues to decline. Since approximately one-third of the Jesuit residence is actually being occupied, the Jesuits, in conjunction with the University, have been working on a plan to build a new Jesuit residence and use this existing building for future student housing.

When James Fitzpatrick attended Fairfield in the late 1960s, there was no office of Jesuit mission and identity. Few volunteer or service trips were even offered. Students were required to go to mass on Sunday wearing a shirt and tie. There was also no Ignatian Residential College.
