A press conference Monday afternoon was held to announce that Fairfield University will be welcoming musician Ludacris for its annual Spring concert in Alumni Hall on Feb. 15, 2008.
Ludacris has released such hits as; “Southern Hospitality”, “Act a Fool”, “Welcome to Atlanta” and “Stand Up”.
The concert, orchestrated primarily by FUSA Directors of Concerts Vanessa Jackson ’08 and Katelyn M Waters ’08 was the result of an $85,000 bid, according to FUSA Executive of Programs Cristina Pires ’08.
“We were working to put together a concert different from the years prior to this one,” said Jackson. “We gathered information from student surveys, and were satisfied with our choice because of the recognition the name Ludacris is associated with.”
FUSA decided to consolidate funds for one famed act instead of two smaller shows in response to these surveys, according to a FUSA press release.
The rapper has recently released his fifth album titled “Release Therapy” and gained much notoriety for his performance in the 2005 Oscar winning movie, “Crash”.
Many Fairfield students are excited about having such a big name performer performing at Fairfield, and appreciate the efforts FUSA has made to attract artists of different music genres.
“I think it will be really cool,” said Maria D’Amico ’11. “It’s definitely a good idea to mix the concert performers up year to year.”
Nicolle Gutierrez ’10 agreed with D’Amico, adding that Ludacris’s star power will attract a large crowd in Alumni Hall.
“I’m definitely excited. A lot of people know his name and I think they will go because people are familiar with his music. It’s a really good idea to have him here,” she said.
One thousand student tickets will be released with a limited purchase of one ticket per student id. Information on ticket sales will be released post Thanksgiving.
