On Monday, Fairfield squares off against conference foe Loyola at 7 p.m. in Baltimore, Md.
The Stags (6-8) have a 2-1 conference record. Loyola (7-6)is also 2-1 in the MAAC.
The Greyhounds’ last game and second league victory came against Siena this past Saturday.
Loyola packs quite the offensive punch. It has some players that can flat-out score.
In conference play, the Greyhounds have four players in double figures. On the season, Jill Glessner leads the team with 15.2 points per game.
Loyola is # 2 in the MAAC in scoring offense. Fairfield, who also has a potent offense, is currently sitting at # 3.
The Greyhounds enter the game with a three game winning streak.
Their matchup with Fairfield will most likely be their first real league challenge so far. Loyola won its first two MAAC contests against Rider and Siena, two teams with a combined three wins on the season.
To win, the Stags must bounce back from a 22-point loss to a very good Marist team this past Saturday.
Fairfield, who has generated a lot of offense to date, seemingly went cold at times versus the Red Foxes. The squad scored less than 60 points for the first time in the last six games.
At one point, the Red Foxes went on a 26-10 run in the span of about 12 minutes. As a team, the Stags only shot 30.4 % from the field.
In addition, Fairfield got outrebounded 44-35 – something we haven’t seen happen many times this year.
The Stags must put aside last game’s woes. They must shoot better from the field and focus on stringing together several scoring drives. They must get back to their strong level of play on defense.
If Fairfield does all that and avoids running itself into a hole early on, it will be in good shape.
