On Friday, Feb. 14, Sabrina Carpenter released five new additions to her hit album, “Short n’ Sweet”, calling it the deluxe version. The surprise announcement of these new works came after the artist won her first two Grammys. The four new songs are called “15 Minutes,” “Couldn’t Make It Any Harder,” “Busy Woman” and “Bad Reviews.” The fifth song is a remix of her single “Please Please Please,” which features Dolly Parton. Fans have been looking forward to new music from Sabrina and she has delivered a variety of amazing songs, as usual.
The first new addition to “Short n’ Sweet” is “15 Minutes.” This song is very upbeat, similar to “Espresso” and “Juno,” songs featured on the original album. It’s packed full of her signature innuendo lyrics. The song is also a reference to the saying “15 minutes of fame.” Sabrina Carpenter grew in popularity quickly and she says in her song “I can do a lot in 15 minutes,” meaning she is taking full advantage of her time in the spotlight.
The next song is “Please Please Please” featuring Dolly Parton. This is a slightly remixed version of the original single released in June 2024. It has a little country vibe to it, which fits considering the collaboration with Dolly Parton. The remix is also a clean version of the original “Please Please Please.” However popular the first version is, this new one is not exactly what fans expected. The original vibe of the song does not seem to pair well with a more country beat, which leaves many people, myself included, not big fans of this collaboration.
My personal favorite out of the five new additions to “Short n’ Sweet” is “Couldn’t Make It Any Harder.” This is a slower, slightly sad song that felt more vulnerable and personal to the artist. It has a very similar sound to “Hopelessly Devoted To You” by Olivia Newton-John from the musical, Grease. Sabrina Carpenter has performed the musical song as a surprise at shows on her most recent tour. “Couldn’t Make It Any Harder” really showcases her vocals. She is very talented and this heartbroken melody shows off her true skill.
“Busy Woman,” the fourth new track, has been teased for months by the artist. She even performed it as a surprise song at a few shows on the “Short n’ Sweet” tour. This song has been a long time coming for many of Carpenter’s loyal fans and it lives up to the hype. The song goes back and forth between love and hate, which is relatable to many feeling indecisive about a romantic interest. The upbeat tempo, the fun lyrics and the overall silly vibe of the song will solidify “Busy Woman” as a hit.
The fifth and final song on the deluxe version of “Short n’ Sweet” is “Bad Reviews. This song has a slight country style to it, with a similar vibe to the original version of “Please Please Please.” The lyrics take on a somewhat sad tone, talking about a relationship that has gotten a lot of criticism that won’t be acknowledged. This track might be one of her most relatable songs yet, especially to relationships in this generation. The lyric “I can’t lose another boy that’s not even my boyfriend” will hit close to home for many, especially college students struggling in the current dating scene.
Sabrina Carpenter’s deluxe version of “Short n’ Sweet” showcases a varied mix of tracks that demonstrate her talent and skill as an artist. From the upbeat vibe of “15 Minutes” to the heartbreaking ballad of “Couldn’t Make It Any Harder,” Carpenter proves her ability to blend genres and emotions effortlessly into one album. While some tracks, like “Please Please Please” featuring Dolly Parton, may not be everyone’s favorite, she still consistently delivers hit after hit, each more creative than the last.
