As the weather warms up, some students may find it difficult to dress appropriately during the week. Some days still feel like winter, but others are sunny and warm. Finding the right outfit and dressing for this transition season can seem like an overwhelming task. Some tips to help get the most out of your wardrobe at this confusing time of year for the weather include layering, finding light fabric and mixing seasonal pieces.

Layering with lighter fabrics can help so much as temperatures rise throughout the day at this time of year. Wearing cardigans, denim jackets, or other lighter jackets that can be removed once it is warm enough is highly recommended. It might even be time to put away the heavy winter jackets in exchange for the smaller puffers or lightweight coats. These can be easily taken on and off depending on the temperature level on that day.

Many people will also begin to bring out more spring colors and patterns. These might include pastels, florals and just more colors in general. The darker, winter shades will start to phase out as students begin to favor brighter, warm weather colors. The warmer temperatures will begin to bring out happier colors.

Another tip for dressing for this confusing transition season is mixing winter pieces with some of the spring clothes. Pairing pastel color palettes, lighter sweaters and cardigans and lighter jackets can help solve some winter into spring fashion struggles. Adding these types of pieces into your daily wardrobe at this time of year can alleviate stress when it comes to what to wear each day.

One of the best ways to transition from winter to spring is with shoe choices. Warmer weather calls for winter boots and Uggs to be removed from your daily shoe rotation in favor of casual sneakers. Many people prefer white sneakers which are versatile and match with any outfit. However, some students can be seen sporting fun, colorful shoes around campus. This can brighten up an outfit and add a pop of color into your transitional wardrobe.

This time of year may also call for some rainy weather. In preparation for this, it would be helpful to have lightweight rain jackets and other waterproof options to brave the spring showers. On colder days with rain one might want a heavier waterproof jacket, but I would recommend wearing a warmer sweatshirt underneath a lighter raincoat to avoid having to buy too many different jacket options. This will keep you warm and dry, while still allowing for flexibility in outfit choices, making it perfect for the unpredictable weather of this season.

Dressing for the transition from winter to spring can be a challenge. However, a little planning can help it become easy to create a versatile wardrobe that works for different weather each day of the week. By layering, mixing pieces and choosing the right shoes and outerwear, you can stay comfortable and stylish no matter what temperature it may be. Embracing the changing season with bright, spring colors and lighter fabrics can allow you to adjust to the weather warming up each day.
