Fairfield students “hunger” to help on April 5

Thirty-three million people in The United States do not know where their next meal is coming from. The National Student Campaign Against Hunger ' Homelessness instituted an annual event to fight against it 19 years ago. What resulted was the Annual Hunger Cleanup which now takes place on the first Saturday of every April.

Tuesday, March 18 11:45 a.m. - Security responded to an angry student who was upset over a ticket issued to him by a state trooper. Security and Fairfield Police attempted to calm the student down. 2:17 p.m. - An attempted burglary was reported at the Alumni House.

Candlelight vigil ignites student concern for war

Although many Fairfield University students continue to participate in peace rallies throughout America and in the weekly protest that takes place in Fairfield center, some are taking a quieter approach. Last Thursday night a group of 50 students gathered in the Egan Chapel to participate in a candlelight vigil for peace and the safe return of American and coalition troops now in Iraq.

First football, now budget crunch claims merit pay

For nearly two years, faculty and administrators wrangled, quarreled and debated over the divisive issue of merit pay. Now, all that debate seems to be for nothing. Merit pay, scheduled to be implemented this year with or without full faculty participation, was delayed by administrators due to budget shortfalls that also resulted in the disbandment of the football and hockey teams.

Accurate laser-guided bombs and missiles, increasing intelligence, the Mother of All Bombs--all are part of the new military technology that is marking the U.S.'s first large-scale war in over a decade. Not to be overlooked, however, is the new technology for the average person--the Internet--that is allowing people around the world to experience, protest, and support the war, all without leaving the comfort of home.

The women's softball team is starting off on the right foot this season with a winning record (10-7), dramatic victories in Florida, and sweeping its first double-header against MAAC competition this season. Fairfield beat St. Peters in a double header this past Monday by scores of 10-3 and 4-3.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Injuries put damper on Stags’ season

Two major goals set by the women's basketball team in preseason were to improve upon last year's 13-17 record and to contend for the MAAC championship. Neither one was accomplished. The Stags finished their season with a 12-17 record and were knocked out in the second round of the conference tournament by Niagara 76-65.
