A football team? Frats? Who needs them?’ Attention all Fairfield students: We are having a Homecoming Weekend, with or without a football team.
This year, Fairfield University’s Homecoming Committee is preparing to start a new tradition with the combination of Parents’ Weekend and Alumni Weekend, with hopes of increasing interest in such an event.
On the weekend of Oct. 25 and 26, the Fairfield campus will be transformed into a place that will combine ‘A Taste of Fairfield,’ ‘Stagfest,’ ‘Stagtoberfest,’ ‘Exploring Fairfield,’ a hypnotist, and a 5k run, along with many other activities that are sure to provide the Fairfield student body with a great kick-off to our newest annual tradition.
There will also be a faculty meet-and-greet where alumni and parents can meet their child’s professors.
‘A Taste of Fairfield’ will feature food from some of Fairfield’s local restaurants.
Student athletes will also be available for pictures during ‘StagFest.’ Athletic contests will also be featured along with autograph sessions from the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
‘Stagtoberfest’ will be held at Mike’s Pizza and feature music by alumni’ A.J. Piper ’08 and Alex Claydon ’08.
‘We want to be able to involve all students in Homecoming Weekend,’ said Homecoming Committee Chair Kelsey Schroeder ’10. ‘It’s more than just parents and alumni this time.’
There will also be a variety of athletic events for alumni, students and parents.
Field hockey will take on New Hampshire, men’s rugby will play Iona, women’s volleyball will play St. Peter’s and there will also be alumni soccer, lacrosse, and rugby games.
The major game will be that Sunday at 1 p.m. when men’s soccer takes on Loyola.
Field hockey will also take on Yale and volleyball will play Northeastern on Sunday.
The ‘Exploring Fairfield’ series will include campus tours, career and study abroad fairs and more information about Fairfield.
Under the direction of Matthew Dinnan, director of Student Activities, students have been planning for Homecoming Weekend’s activities since this past Spring.
Dinnan said he hopes it will encompass more than just a few alumni and parents, but the students as well, allowing’ homecoming to appeal to all people at the Fairfield community.
