Most women at Fairfield have found the real meaning to going over to a guy’s room to “watch a movie.” Usually, watching a movie is the last thing on both people’s minds.

So I suggest the next time two people get together to “watch a movie,” they should think about renting some chick flicks.

The plots are easy to follow even if you miss a few scenes here and there or only get a chance to see the beginning and then the very end, which is usually highly predictable anyway.

So you can still go back to your dorm, townhouse or beach house and tell your friends all about the movie. That is, of course, unless there are more important and interesting details of the night you would be dying to share with others.

So here are some newly released chick flick rentals that would be perfect for a night of two people getting together to “watch a movie”:

The Wedding Date,” starring Debra Messing, is a great movie to rent if you want to have a nice night of “getting to know each other” by watching a movie.

The acting is so-so. The actors and actresses just barely manage to find out who their characters are and what they want from each other. It is a romantic comedy, but it is definitely not a classic or will ever be defined as one. A good way to explain this movie is that it is a much simpler version of “My Best Friend’s Wedding.” It had the same sort of warm and tingly feeling at the end, as most chick flicks do. You know in the end everything will work out to everyone’s advantage.

First Daughter,” starring Katie Holmes is another great choice to watch with a member of the opposite sex. Holmes plays the daughter of the president who just wants a normal life. The movie does not do a great job of capturing the audience’s attention, which is perfect for a night of “watching a movie.” It is just like all of the other movies made about being the offspring of the President.

The best chick flick for “watching a movie” is “The Upside of Anger,” starring Kevin Costner, recently released on DVD. Surprisingly, it was not a box office hit. This could be because the plot dragged on for what felt like five hours. Nothing very interesting happens in the movie and viewers will find themselves losing interest very quickly, making room for other activities.

Keri Russell, who plays the daughter of Costner’s love interest, might provoke some male attention, but she has little screen time, so don’t worry ladies. You will not lose the guy’s attention for any significant amount of time.
