As the temperature dropped to a chilly level outside on Thurs., Oct. 23, hordes of Fairfield students crowded around tables inside the Barone Campus Center, paintbrushes and pumpkins in hand.

The excitement level was high; ‘It’s been a long week, with midterms and papers. I’ve been looking forward to Pimp Your Pumpkin the entire time,’ said Bridgette Sliva ’12. ‘I even got here early to get a good pumpkin.”

After waiting in line to select the perfect pumpkin, students gathered their supplies and used their artistic talents to decorate. Using paint and brushes (or when the brushes ran out, using their fingers), they decorated their pumpkins in the spirit of Halloween.

‘Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, so I’m really excited for all of theHalloween-themed events on campus,’ said Gabriella Tutino ’12.

Once the pumpkins were finished, students could participate in a doughnut-on-a-string eating contest by holding their hands behind their backs and using only their mouths to get the doughnuts off the strings. Though challenging for the participants, it was definitely a highlight for the viewers.

‘It was really funny to watch,’ said Ali Foreman ’12. ‘I knew I probably would’ve been horrible at it if I had tried, so I preferred watching everyone else try.’
FUSA also provided plenty of fall food for the event ‘- pumpkin and apple pie, candy-filled goodie bags and cider.

‘It was a fun idea ‘- the food was great!’ said Meghan Healy ’12.
Even class president Charlie Knights ’12 got in on the fun, declaring that he had ‘the pimpin’-est pumpkin around!’

The competition among decorated pumpkins was tough, however ‘- designs varied from the usual jack-O-lantern faces to intricate and scary Halloween scenes.

The artistic skills of the Fairfield student body were impressive, and are now being displayed on pumpkins located throughout campus.

Take a look down around the dorms ‘- pumpkins are lining the hallways, signs of the approaching holiday.

‘Pimp Your Pumpkin really got us in the Halloween spirit!’ said Carly Cutler ’12, who was excited to display her pumpkin.
