What are your plans for this Halloween? Are you going to dress up? Go to the dance in the Oak Room of the BCC? Throw your own Halloween bash?

Well, why not try something a little different? There are a ton of seasonal events going on in Fairfield County for you to check out. Head out of the bubble and see what’s out there!

If you don’t have a car, check out what is going on right in town. For the second year in a row, the town of Fairfield is holding “Fairfield Halloweekend” from Oct. 27 to Oct. 31. This year, several Fairfield-based organizations are joining forces with the support of the Connecticut Commission on Culture ‘ Tourism to hold a five-day celebration festival.

Friday night the celebration starts with the Historical Society’s “Spooky Strolls” at 4 p.m., a guided tour of the town green and old burying ground for $5 per person. For reservations, call (203) 259-1598.

Saturday, there will be a scarecrow-building workshop on the Town Green from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., with a $15 cost for the frame and straw. Clothes and props for the scarecrows should be brought by the participants.

If scarecrow building isn’t your thing, try carving Jack O’Lanterns instead. Bring your own pumpkin and knives on Saturday to the Town Green between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Try your hand at carving, followed by a lighting of the pumpkins at 5 p.m.

From Oct. 26-28 the Bridgeport P.A.L is setting up a haunted house from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. for just $3. For more information call (203) 576-7604

The Discovery Museum in Bridgeport presents “Trails from the Crypt” from Oct. 27-29 and “Halls of Horror” from Oct. 30-31 with the help of Realistic ReEnactments LLC, both going on from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. with a $10 admission fee.

Not scared yet? The Stamford Museum and Nature Center is holding its own Haunted House through Oct. 31 at the center on Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

If you’d like to get into the Halloween spirit but prefer not to be scared, head down to Norwalk and check out Stew Leonard’s “Halloween Hayride Spectacular” through Oct. 31 for just $1 for a 15-minute, family-friendly ride through a pumpkin patch and into a haunted underground garage. The ride runs Monday to Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. In addition the store brought in 50,000 pumpkins grown in Connecticut, and a free Halloween-themed movie will show every Friday night at 7 p.m.

Why not try picking your own pumpkins or apples?

Try Beardsley’s Cider Mill ‘ Orchard in Shelton where you can pick your own apples or get them in the farm store along with fresh-baked pies, cheesecakes or donuts. For store hours, visit www.beardsleyscidermill.com or call (203) 926-1098.

There’s also Jones Family Farm in Shelton where you can pick out your own pumpkins, gourds and squash. Hay rides and are also offered and on weekends you can wind your way through a corn maze. Head up to Easton to Silverman’s Farm. Here you can pick your own pumpkin – and it might be free! If you can guess the weight of your pumpkin to within 2 oz., the pumpkin is free of charge. Tractor rides also run through the farm, and on clear days passengers enjoy a view of the Long Island Sound. Come back later in the season for a Christmas tree.
