Swimmers take fifth at MAACs

A total of 14 school records were broken this past weekend as the men's and women's swimming and diving team competed at the MAAC tournament held at Loyola College in Baltimore. The new marks helped both teams perform well at the meet, as both squads finished in fifth.

After the recent suspension of Fairfield basketball player Terrence Todd '06, the high number of basketball players suspended over the past few years seemed like an interesting angle for a newspaper story. Reporter Mike Theile 04, who has covered sports for The Mirror for three years, received no responses from his numerous e-mails and phone calls to hesd coach Tim O'Toole.

Women’s lacrosse ranked No. 1 in preseaon poll

For the second year in a row, the women's lacrosse team was picked to win the Metro Athletic Conference Championships. The question now is will this prediction remain unfulfilled like last year? Fairfield had 47 points in the preseason poll voted on by the league's coaches.

Interest spikes for men’s club volleyball

Just four years ago the men's club volleyball team was concerned they wouldn't have the six required players to form a squad. This year 's turnout, however, was far from scant. The founder of this club, Jon Thomas '02, has noticed gradually increasing interest in the club among athletes and fans each year.

Intramurals hasn't been popular in years at Fairfield. But Director of Intramurals Paul Cantrell is beginning to change that. "I take pride in making the intramural department the largest in the northeast," remarked Cantrell who is well on his way to achieving that goal next year.

Schick wins, women’s golf falls to Siena

Everything came together at this year's MAAC Championships for sophomore Allison Schick, who posted the lowest individual scores of the tournament. Unfortunately, Schick's effort wasn't enough to put the women's golf team into first place. Without any individual expectations, Schick said, "I had a feeling I could shoot low with the way I was hitting the ball.

Women’s lacrosse top in MAAC

The women's lacrosse team was criticized earlier this season for having four coaches in four years, an unstable program and not enough players - boy, have the Stags proved their critics wrong. At first, this wouldn't seem like a true statement. Despite their opening game victory, the Stags followed up with a six-game losing streak.
