Hip Hop Brings Together Students in Final Event of Diversity Week

Hip hop music was just the thing to bring students together. Last Thursday night hip hop music filled the lower level of the Barone Campus Center as students came together to learn a new style of dance. The Elevation of Hip Hop hosted the Harding High School Dance Team at Fairfield University.

Speaker Tells Students, Faculty the Dangers of Aunt Jemima

While characters like Aunt Jemima might seem like inoffensive remnants of another time, Dr. Emilie Townes told a 150 person audience at the Dolan School of Business that these images continue to oppress black women today. Using primarily the example of Aunt Jemima, but also including characters and descriptions from Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin, Townes tried to show the inherent racism and stereotypes maintained in this type of imagery to the mostly white audience.

Video Game Addiction is Quietly Becoming a Problem All Over the World

Along with drinking beer, sleeping late and eating nothing but pizza, playing video games has become a stereotypical college activity. Whether it's the Madden football tournament held every year at Super Bowl time, playing in the various tournaments put on in the dorms or simply having a 2 a.m. Mario Kart game at a friend's house, playing video games has become a major part of college life.

Ham Channel video censored

Every September the Ham Channel has had the opportunity to address the incoming freshman class - until now. This year, the Class of 2006 video, written and produced by students at the Ham Channel, was thrown out moments before it was to be shown this fall at freshman orientation.

Forcible sex offenses see sharp increase in 2001

Campus crime dropped dramatically at Fairfield last year, despite the fact that forcible sexual assaults rose from just one incident in 2000 to eight in 2001. Todd Pelazza, the head of campus security, called the increase in forcible sexual assaults "pretty dramatic.
