After four years of blood, sweat, tears and two trips to the NCAA Tournament, Rachel Romansky ‘14 felt “like I ran into a wall” when their tournament game against eighth-ranked Nebraska ended with a 3-0 loss.
The only thing harder than winning a title is repeating as champion, as the old adage goes. But the Fairfield volleyball team certainly did its best to make it look easy last Sunday, defeating Marist in straight sets to give them consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time since 2001.
With two big MAAC conference games to be played this weekend, Fairfield Volleyball knew they had to come ready to play to win on the weekend. With a 3-1 win over Canisius on Saturday and a 3-1 win over Niagara in Sunday, the Stags improved their win streak to five games and their record to 6-3.
The last time the Fairfield volleyball found themselves down two sets to none on their home floor, they pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in program history to claim their first MAAC Championship title since 2002. Last Thursday, they found out that history would not repeat itself just yet.
