Margaret O’Donnell, a student in the Green Campus Initiative, works with Sodexho to promote local foods, because tons of carbon emissions are created when transporting food from afar (California, South America).

She says we can be aware of what we’re eating, and where it comes from.

For example, if I buy an apple instead of a banana in our cafeteria, I’m voting for fruit from Connecticut instead of fruit from Chile.

Just ask cafeteria staff or administrators where your food items come from.  Or ask a student in the SEA or GCI, like Maggie.

Or notice the little green stickers.  Maggie and her team write a capital L, for Local, on those stickers that adorn food items.

The entire interview with Maggie O’Donnell is posted on “The Reluctant Environmentalist.”
