The man accused of selling marijuana to a Fairfield student in February 2004 pleaded guilty to the drug charge on Feb. 5, according to The Connecticut Post.

The case was set to go to the Superior Court when the accused, John Delabrena, 21, made his plea under the Alford Doctrine. In such a case, the defendant does not admit that he is guilty of the charges against him, but admits that a guilty verdict would likely come from the case if it were to go to trial.

Delabrena will likely be served with an 18-month prison term.

In Feb. 2004 Michaela Marshall ’06 was charged on multiple counts of selling marijuana, which was thought to have been supplied by Delbrena. The Mirror reported in April 2005 that Marshall pleaded guilty to drug charges. She was then sentenced to 15 months in prison, and is now on parole.

Marshall was “not expelled, but suspended from the university” in March 2004, said University Spokeswoman Martha Milcarek.

“Suspension allows students to seek readmission in the future; expulsion prohibits a student from seeking readmission,” said Milcarek.

Milcarek said that Marshall is now attending Fairfield as a non-residential, part-time student through the University College.
