Fairfield University will host two vaccination clinics in partnership with Griffin Hospital starting Wednesday, April 21 in the Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Recreation Complex. The second clinic will be held on May 13. Both clinics will offer the Pfizer vaccine and will run from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. each day.
This vaccination clinic is not only open to students looking to receive their first dose of the vaccine. In an email sent by Vice President of Student Life Karen Donoghue, she stated that “Students who have received their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine and wish to get their second dose on-campus can do so either date.”
Further instructions will come this week about how to register for a time slot and additional details about the clinic.
This announcement comes after Fairfield’s original plans to host a clinic that offered the Johnson & Johnson vaccine had to change once Connecticut and other states paused the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after six reports of extremely rare adverse reactions to the vaccine were reported.
Fairfield nursing students were invited to participate in the clinics as volunteer vaccinators.
In an email sent by Erica Wuchiski, MSN, R.N. to nursing students, she described this as a “great opportunity to practice giving IM [intramuscular] injections” and a “wonderful way to give back to the community.”
Junior nursing student Jasmine Nguy stated that she is extremely excited to use the skills she’s learned in her classes.
“I am so thankful for the opportunity that Fairfield has given nursing students,” she continued. “I am happy to volunteer my time for the community so that they can become vaccinated.”
Nursing students interested in volunteering should email Wuchiski at ewuchiski1@fairfield.edu.
