Clinton Chizinski, a sophomore at Fairfield University, was shot early Saturday morning at a party in Westport.

Chizinski, 20, of Wilton was shot in the abdomen as he wrestled with alleged robber Brian Mincieli, of Staten Island, NY, according to Westport Now.

Mincieli, 22, pulled out a handgun at the birthday party and tried to rob the guests at 3:24 a.m. according to the Connecticut Post.

Police told Westport Now that Chizinski underwent surgery at Norwalk Hospital and was reported in stable condition.

A source told Westport Now that three shots were fired as Chizinski, with the first hitting a wall, the second hitting Chizinski in the abdomen and the third jamming in the chamber.

Chizinski told News 12 Connecticut about his decision to tackle Mincieli, “I wasn’t really thinking except that I’m not going to let this happen.”

Mincieli was also injured but fled and was later captured by police. According to the Connecticut Post Mincieli was treated at Norwalk Hospital.

The source for Westport Now said Mincieli was out on parole for one or more prior crimes.

Mincieli will be arraigned on November 23, according to News 12 Connecticut.
