Tap Project working toward clean water

The Tap Project, a “campaign that celebrates the clean and accessible drinking water available as an everyday privilege to millions, while helping UNICEF provide safe drinking water for children around the world,” is conducting a nationwide expansion, according to its Web site .

Sponsored during World Water Week, March 16-22, the Tap Project is a national campaign in which restaurants ask customers to donate $1 for a glass of water they would normally receive for free.

Last year, when the project was run in New York City, thousands of dollars were raised.

American death toll hits 4,000 in Iraq

A new milestone in the war in Iraq was reached over the weekend when it was reported that the American death toll has reached 4,000.

The unofficial death toll, which was reported by the Associated Press, allegedly surpassed this grim mark on Sunday night, with the death of four American soldiers due to a roadside bomb, according to The New York Times. This latest milestone comes just a few days after the five-year anniversary of the start of the war.

Along with acknowledging the bleakness of the number, President Bush also stated that the United States will continue to march forward and “focus on succeeding,” according to The Times .

Facebook security lapse

According to a report by the Associated Press, Facebook’s numerous privacy controls lapsed over the weekend, allowing strangers to search for and look through profiles that are normally restricted.

Byron Ng, a computer technician from Canada, discovered the loophole and tipped off the Associated Press on Monday. He was able to break through all of the new security precautions issued by Facebook last week.

Facebook was notified on Monday and immediately fixed the bug.
