Fairfield, CT, October 14, 2011 – Students at Fairfield University can now tune into The HAM Channel or read the Mirror and find the same news and information on both platforms. The two clubs will engage students in the news happening both on campus and off through a variety of media.

Mirror Editor in Chief, Mikaela Tierney and Ham Channel President, Chelsea Whittemore are teaming up this year to provide important news to the students on campus in both print and multimedia format.

Upcoming plans include, pairing up “6 in 64” (the top 6 stories in 64 seconds in video format) with the top stories from The Mirror, doing large scale stories from the Mirror in packages for “News 64,” and an upcoming Huffington Post style blog that features both the video and the print story.

“I think it’ll increase the appeal of both of our outlets, the Mirror and HAM Channel,” said Tierney ‘12. “With researched articles from the paper and video multimedia content from HAM, we’re going to cover all sorts of new topics that may have been otherwise missed.”

Whittemore agreed. “It’s a shame these two clubs haven’t come together in the past,” said Whittemore ’12 ”News is news, and when you are covering the same things, it only makes sense to share the material so your viewer’s have complimenting information.”

The agreement parallels changes in the news industry where separate print and broadcast operations are often converged.

The Mirror is a student run, award-winning newspaper that prints weekly on campus.  The Ham Channel is Fairfield University’s student television network located at the Media Center in Xavier Hall. Both clubs are the main sources of news and entertainment on campus.

Staff meetings for the paper are held in the Lower BCC on Wednesdays at 7 pm. Ham Channel Meetings are Tuesday’s at 8:30 in the Media Center.
