“It’s good sober fun.”

That’s how Kenny Gilberg ’12 described FUSA’s Late Night at the Stag event, which occurs on the first Friday of every month. In another attempt to increase school spirit-students are asked to wear red every first Friday- the Stag is converted into a social club, adorned with red and white balloons and decorations and features food, music, and video games.

When the clock hit 11:00 p.m. last Friday, the Stag was quite crowded. Freshmen enjoyed themselves playing Wii Sports or Scene It while upper-classmen munched on bacon-egg-and-cheese sandwiches. Returning students, like Alex Lewandowski ‘12, continuously go to Late Night at the Stag because “you can congregate and meet new faces.”

Students unanimously agree that Late Night at the Stag is a great way to socialize and a wonderful alternative to spending the night drinking. The free food helps, too.

But the Stag is more than just a social scene. According to FUSA president Jeffrey Seiser ’10, the creation of Late Night was to establish tradition.

“People at Fairfield always talk about creating tradition,” Seiser explains. “One of the good things about Late is that people come out as a community. It’s a great thing.”

FUSA is always working hard to bring Fairfield Stags together at social events. Programs such as Free Extreme Bowling, Beach Party on the Patio and the few dances during the year are all part of an effort to rally school spirit. The first week of school, all social events were titled “True Life” as a way to connect to the students. But Late Night at the Stag is one event the students look forward to every month. Just remember to wear red.
