To the Editor:

I am writing in response to our President’s regulations for Bellarmine and the surrounding field. After cross country skiing around this area, I was asked to leave by security because Father Kelley does not allow this kind of activity on “The Great Lawn.”

Like many students, I enjoy playing in the snow. I decided to take advantage of the blizzard to use my skis and explore a new part of campus. I had no idea that my skis were harming “The Great Lawn.” But the thing about skis and sleds is that they do not actually touch the ground; that is what the snow is for.

I must admit that I do not like being told, “You can’t do that.” Maybe this is a case in which the administration knows something that I do not?

Sincerely,

Emily Sweet ’03
