Bottles of Guinness, green streamers and Irish drinking songs? No, it was not St. Patrick’s Day. It was The Highland Rovers Band, taking over the Levee on Thursday night.’ ‘

With green guitars, Irish t-shirts and beer galore, the Highland Rovers played both traditional Irish music and typical American classics.’ ‘ Crowd favorites included everything from ‘Wild Rover’ and ‘Galway Girl’ to Tom Petty’s ‘American Girl’ and Kid Rock’s ‘All Summer Long.” ‘

The Highland Rovers are a Fairfield favorite, playing various times in recent years for Senior Week and around St. Patrick’s Day.’ ‘

Eric Boehm ’09 said that when he walked into the Levee, he told his girlfriend, ‘I’m getting my shillelagh on!” ‘

Though the night started slowly, by the time the free Angelo’s Pizza came out at 9 pm, the Levee was packed with students and a few faculty members.’ ‘

Becky Krause ’09, decked in a green-and-white striped shirt and an Irish ribbon, said, ‘From the moment I walked in they started talking to us. They were really fun and interactive!” ‘
