Last Thursday, the Grape was still closed, but the Levee was open for business as usual, and it was Senior Mug Night once again.

Like the very first Mug Night held last semester, this past Mug Night had a large turnout. Approximately 195 students attended throughout the evening, according to Joe Ginese, a graduate assistant who helped orchestrate the event.

The event was moved from its usual time on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. to Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and given a happy hour theme.

Whether or not the time change was the reason for the increase in turnout is up for debate. However, event planners attribute the earlier time to the surge in popularity.

“Due to the success of Senior Mug Night this time, look forward to Mug Night being at the same time on on Feb. 7,” said Ginese.

However, some students think 5 p.m. is just too early.

“I enjoyed it, but I liked the later mug night with the DJ a lot better,” said Jenna Sordi ’06. “I thought they could have taken advantage of the Grape being closed more.”

However, with the earlier time and hopes that the Grape opens sometime before we graduate, Sordi added, “I’ll probably go to Mug Night first, but I can see us going to the Grape afterward.”

Charlie Sferlazza ’06, a regular on Thursday evenings, said that Mug Night was no different than any other Thursday night.

“[It was] nothing special because $1 beers is something we have everyday at the Levee,” said Sferlazza. “I am there anyway every Thursday. They should give out some free t-shirts, have more gimmicks and free food to attract more people.”

Many beach residents have turned to the Levee for entertainment on Thursday nights since the Grape is still closed.

“It was great,” said Lindsay Hueber ’06. “All my friends had a good time catching up with everyone that we do not get to see often at the beach.”

“It was a good time, definitely enjoying my last days here at Fairfield,” said Mike Murphy ’06. “This tradition is something that should definitely keep going. They unveiled a new beer at a discounted price, Blue Moon.”

Danielle Craparo ’06 agreed.

“There are only a few more months until we graduate so we’ll take advantage of everything that we can,” she said. “It is way easier to get drinks at The Levee than the Grape because it is not as crowded and there is more room.”

Look forward to the next Senior Mug Night on Thursday, Feb. 7 from 5-8 p.m. This may be one of the only lasting senior traditions that the university does not put the kibosh on. So designate a driver, and pre-game at the Levee.
