The Best: Joe’s American Bar ‘ Grill

Joe’s is parent friendly, there’s no doubt about that. It’s close, it’s convenient, it’s reasonably priced, and the menu is American style, with enough choices for there to be something for everyone. Their New England clam chowder bread bowl and onion strings are especially good. Overall, the food is decent, and if you’re a freshman, you’ll be so glad to be escaping Barone that Joe’s will seem like a 5-star restaurant. It doesn’t take long for the novelty to wear off, though. Joe’s gets old fast, and you’ll want to start exploring for slightly more adventurous restaurants.

The Worst: Barone Cafeteria

Every year on Parent’s Weekend, Barone undergoes some sort of transformation that’s supposed to convince our parents that the food at Fairfield is actually edible. A few flowers and tablecloths can’t hide the sad truth, though. The sandwich meat is slimy, the burgers are like hockey-pucks, the pasta is rubbery, and none of their “entrees” are fit for human consumption. Let’s face it: man cannot subsist on grilled cheese and French fries alone. Plus, we all know there’s laxatives in the food. Why subject your parents to this when they have the cash and the transportation to get you to a decent restaurant off-campus?
