To the Editor,

Fairfield is ‘going green’ slowly but surely, but I am asking if it is worth it.

I personally have nothing against ‘going green’ because it is saving the environment. I will be honest: When it starts affecting me and my wallet, I start to second guess it. Having no plastic bags at the Stag or trays in Barone is where I draw the line. How much of a contribution does that make? It makes us all feel a bit better inside, but I leave Barone hungry and making a second trip is really not worth it. Also, if global warming has not ruined winter, how am I going to sled?

In regards to the Stag bags, I did not always want a plastic bag, but every now and then I needed one. It was nice to not have to shell out $1 for a bag that I will leave in my room.

The idea that I will carry this bag with me is absurd. It is not like a super-market that I drive to, it’s where I stop by on my way back and forth from class. Am I supposed to keep the tote bag in my backpack? That’s not very practical. Maybe, I could be charged 25 cents for a plastic bag. Maybe look into a bag exchange or something, have drop off points at each dorm. I don’t feel like paying $1 each time I need a bag. And if I do, could I get a plain old bag? I don’t need one saying ‘I was once a bottle.’ My paper bags never said ‘I was once a tree.’

I don’t need everyone to think I’ve gone green when all I really needed was a bag to carry stuff back to my dorm room.

Sincerely,’ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘
