The Best: China Star

Lots of food for little money; I can see the dollar signs in your eyes. For a hundred bucks, you can feed an entire floor in Dolan. Be prepared for that Chinese staple (pork-fried rice) as well as a ton of whatever you really ordered. In any case, it’s sure to feed you for a week, and it most likely won’t go bad. If you want a change from Dominos, China Star delivers to your room, and they’ll probably beat the delivery time for Dominos as well. As far as variety goes, be prepared to have a plethora to choose from. From fried wontons to sesame chicken to sweet ‘ sour pork, it blows the choices at Dominos out of the ballpark. If you order Chinese, you probably have ordered it from China Star. It’s reputation for an abundance of food, while not emptying your wallet, is known around Fairfield’s campus.

Staff Pick: Hunan Pavilion

The Hunan Pavilion is a great place for dine-in or take-out eating. Located on 80 Post Road, this restaurant boasts a strong, diverse menu. If you like General Tso’s chicken, then this is the place for you. Also, meals begin with a complementary dish of dry noodles and an excellent dipping sauce. The dining area has a nice ambience and is usually on the quiet side. A lot of their business seems to be conducted on the take-out side of the restaurant. Prices are comparable to other similar restaurants.

The Worst: China Star

If you’re looking for long waits, poor English, and bad attitudes, then China Star is definitely the place for you. Sure, the food might be good, but who wants to wait over an hour for a lifetime supply of MSG? Don’t try to pay with a credit card unless a) you’ve bought more than $20 worth of food or b) you want an argument. China Star definitely isn’t a place where everyone knows your name. In fact, when you walk in you’ll be greeted with a glare and not even a half-hearted hello. It makes you feel more like a nuisance than a customer. Delivery wait time: over an hour. Eat in: 25 minutes. If you go vegetarian, then I pray that you like rubbery tofu, because that’s pretty much what you’ll get. If you don’t like tofu, never fear, because it’s drowned in sauce anyway. If you order rice, you’ll be buried in it.
