Coming in as a freshmen is daunting.  You have hopes, fears, worries and expectations. Maybe you heard negative reviews of Fairfield. But I’m here to dispel some of that negativety.

The Students:

You might have heard that Fairfield students were all preppy and snobby people whose dads paid for everything. According to CNNMoney magazine, Fairfield places ninth in the ‘Top 100 Places to Live’ and boasts a medium family income per year of $113,429. I actually expected to see complete “gossip girls” with brand names worn from head to toe.

It’s the imagination that creates such broad, fictional characterizations for students at Fairfield. The majority of students wear clothes you would find at the mall or on any other college campus in the United States. All I can say is that you will meet the good and the bad of people. I was lucky enough to find a group of friends whom I get along with despite us all being completely different from each other.

The Social Scene:

It’s common knowledge that drinking is a popular activity on campus. The misconception is that everyone here gets drunk on weekends. All students and professors silently accept that fact; but choosing to drink is an individual’s call. There are alternative options, such as a trip to NYC, many campus events or exploring town.

While Fairfield’s town centers are small, they both have places where you can stock up on food and clothing. Marshalls and Stop & Shop are the typical destinations for students and I personally can’t complain about the shopping options.

Then there’s FUSA, the organization responsible for getting students involved with university activities. You’ll hear mixed reviews about them, mostly negative. But FUSA usually has great ideas that attract crowds of students.

There are plenty of clubs to be found on campus. You’ll definitely get a list from someone. Rest assured, there’s no limit to the activities that you can explore here.

Enjoy Fairfield. Try not to complain about not having fun at the University because you might ruin someone else’s good time. You’ll find your group of friends here, and eventually figure everything out academically. All you have to do is relax and have fun. The end of the year and the start of a dull summer will arrive sooner than you think.
