To the Editor:

As a former Fairfield University football player, and I do stress former, I would like to ask a question to our “so called” administrators; why are they still not talking to us about the disbandment of our teams? From we the students, to our extremely displeased parents no questions or inquiries into the matter have been answered. Questions such as why the university needed to save 570,000 dollars to why is the money saved going to such so called high priority sports as basketball? The University’s unwillingness to answer our questions only serves to distance themselves from the student body. As a student I am extremely angered by the situation, and although I am going into my senior year I am most certainly considering transferring from Fairfield. It is not even about the opportunity to play football any more, my anger and disgust with the University comes from the fact that I can no longer trust those who are in charge of the school. If the administration wishes not to answer our questions than I believe they are worried about the damage the answers would inflict. I feel that honesty is always the best policy, and that in the University’s attempt to educate students and mold them into adults they should be adults themselves and practice what they preach. Treat us like the adults that we are and be honest about your decisions. Along with not being honest with us the university is also not being honest with our parents. I know for a fact that my parents have asked repeatedly for some sort of explanation and that they have also received no answers. The University is seemingly just pushing us to the side and choosing to forget about us. Why is the University choosing to be apathetic to us? In closing I would just like to say that the decisions to cut both the football and hockey teams is one of the worst decisions that this university could have made. Perhaps they will think next time they want to expand some sort of building or athletic facility-remembering what it will mean in the long run. The University has indeed dropped the ball, and their silence over it only seems to confirm this fact.

Sincerely
