To start off, on behalf of the Intramurals Staff, I would like to thank all those who participated in the Fairfield University Intramurals program during the 2001-2002 academic year and for making this past season one of the best in recent memory. Congratulations to all of our champions: Shooting Seamen (Football), Shockers (Outdoor Soccer, Floor Hockey), Dirty Dozen (“A” League Basketball), TBA (“B” League Basketball) and our two newest champions: Bea Lows (Co-ed Softball) and the Punchbowl Spikers (Volleyball)

Alumni Hall – On the court at Alumni Hall, the Punchbowl Spikers squared off against the Camel Toes in the 2002 Fairfield University Intramurals Volleyball championship. The teams went back and forth with the Camel Toes winning the first game of the best of five series and the Spikers winning the next. The two teams headed into the fifth game deadlocked at two wins a piece. The manpower of the Spikers proved to be too much for the Camel Toes to handle as the Spikers continually rotated in their two subs throughout the match. As fatigue set in on the Camel Toes, the Spikers took advantage and raged out to an 8-point lead. The Camel Toes fought back, but it was too little too late as the Punchbowl Spikers went on to be crowned champions of intramural volleyball.

Barlow Field – The first of two champions for softball was crowned on Saturday as the Bea Lows edged the Dirty Pennies 7-6 in their last at bat. The softball playoffs ran all day on Saturday and the Dirty Pennies and Bea Lows were there from beginning to end, which was exactly how the championship was played. A hard fought game all the way, the championship did not fail to please the crowd. Coming into the last inning, trailing by 2 runs, the Dirty Pennies stormed back to tie the game heading into the bottom of the inning. But the Bea Lows proved to be too much recording three straight singles to win the game and the 2002 Fairfield University Intramurals Co-ed Softball championship.

Men’s Softball League finished up along with Indoor Soccer, check the Intramurals board at the RecPlex to see the results.

It was a memorable year for the Fairfield University Intramurals department, the most successful in recent history. It is clear that intramurals is on the rise again. We invite everyone to come out and sign up again next year.
