Men’s basketball was dealt a blow this week that will transcend the win-loss column with the resignation of Assistant Coach Tim Fuller.

“He had other opportunities in a private sector,” said Head Coach Ed Cooley. “He felt it was the best decision with his young family.”

Fuller, whose wife, La’Kicia, is the Assistant Director of Multicultural Relations, has had a successful run as a coach. He was known for his vigorous work as a recruiter, helping the Stags land two consecutive blue-ribbon recruiting classes.

Fuller began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Elon following a stint at West Forsyth High School, where he coached and developed a relationship with NBA star Chris Paul.

Following his success at Elon, Fuller spent a brief stint at Miami (Fla.). He then moved on to his alma mater, Wake Forest, where he served as the director of basketball operations.

Fuller returned to Wake Forest after a five-year absence. He played as a non-scholarship basketball player for three years, then was reward with a scholarship his senior year. He was named co-captain and the Demon Deacons won the 2000 National Invitational Tournament Championship.

He left his position at Wake Forest to become an assistant for Cooley during the 2006-2007 season.

Fuller resigned Nov. 12 and Cooley signed his papers on Nov. 14. Director of Basketball Operations Richard Carter has been promoted to assistant coach.

“We felt he was a great person and meant a lot for our program,” said Cooley. “We wish him the best.”
