Batting Average: The softball team came away with a 2-3 record over the weekend and a 2-6 record for the overall week. The Stags traveled last week to San Diego for a tournament held at San Diego State University. The Stags beat both Miami (OH) and Iona 6-5 during the week bringing their overall record for the season to 3-10. Stand-out junior Julia Jacoby had 15 hits including four extra base hits. Her strong performance in San Diego garnered her MAAC accolades for the week. Jacoby has also only struck out seven times in 202 at-bats, the seventh lowest total in Division I.


Striking Out: The baseball team had a rough start to the season in their preseason opening tournament in Bradenton, Fla. The Stags went 0-6 for the week bringing their overall record to 1-9. “We learned that we need to improve,” said junior Peter Allen. He continued by saying that the conference play will be better and the Stags hope to be a “dangerous team.” Despite the losses the Stags came close in games against Vermont and Dartmouth. Fairfield played against Army on Friday, but it was rained out in the fifth inning.


Coming Out Even: The men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled to Orlando, Fla. last week for their Spring Break trip of round-robin games. Both teams went 2-2 on the week bringing both overall records to 5-3. Women’s player Alexis Accomando ’07 had a standout trip winning five straight matches and losing two, men’s player Zach Morrison ’07 won four matches for the week. The wins moved his career total to 104, making him the second player, along with teammate and co-captain Jon Ferrnando ’07, to pass 100 wins.


Swinging Forward: The men’s and women’s golf teams hosted the Fairfield Spring Invitational at the Crown Park Golf Course in Myrtle Beach S.C. The men’s team finished second, behind Siena. The Stags shot a team total 317-316, for a two day total of 633 (+57), eight shots behind Siena. Senior Dan Quatrocelli led the way for the Stags with +10 in two days, for a second place finish. Sophomore William Onstott finished tied for fourth with +11. The women’s team placed third, behind LIU and California (PA). The Stags shot 345-363 for a two day 708 (+132). Alicia Esposito `10, Courtney Richardson `09, and Liz McCabe `07 finished in sixth, seventh and eighth place as the highest Fairfield finishers.


Striving for Consistency: The women’s lacrosse team finally found the break it needed over this past week, going 3-2 during the break. The Stags were lead by Amy Neville ’08, who garnered 15 goals over the five games including the game winning goal against Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday. The Stags fell to both American (10-6) and Lehigh (11-10) to bring their overall record to 3-5. Fairfield has swept the league honors two weeks in a row. For the week of March 13 Neville was named offensive player of the week, Lauren Chatnik ’09 was named defensive player of the week and Nina Tedeschi ’10 received rookie awards. For the week of March 19, Ashley Chappell ’07 received offensive awards and Mary Vallely ’08 received defensive honors. The Stags have their first league game home this Saturday against Marist.
