When I searched YouTube for “Fairfield University,” I prepared myself for anything. The worst, I suspected, could be a clip of Jesuits engaging in some type of late-night tribal dance on Bellarmine lawn. Or maybe some freshmen astride a live stag, galloping across the Quad.

I admit that I was disappointed when nothing of the sort showed up. However, what I did find was enough to make me want to coordinate my own dance in honor of the wildly creative (and sometimes stupid) souls of Fairfield’s own YouTube stars.

Allow me to let you in on the utter genius of our community. You can learn pretty much anything you want to in these videos.

Want to find out how to sled from Bellarmine Hall to Dolan Hall? YouTube it. An extremely adventurous student went for the sled ride of his life with a camera in tow and was generous enough to share his run with us online. Memorize this sledding route and keep it in mind for snowier months.

Video of the dangerous slide

Although the filming isn’t extremely steady because the cameraman hits various bumps, you’ll learn which basic moves to master or, well, avoid.

Have you always wanted to turn your dorm stairwell into a three-story golf hole? Hopefully you haven’t, but you never know. Some people are just … inventive. Oddly enough, you can learn how to do that on YouTube, too.

Tiger couldn’t even pull this one off

One video captures the skills used to hit a golf ball down three flights of stairs in Regis Hall and, amazingly enough, get a hole-in-one into a red Solo cup. Incredible.

Searching for something more dramatic? There are also a few short movie clips.

Take, for example, the six-minute, 31-second movie filmed in the on-campus swimming pool. Watch as the star of the clip dives in, loses his shorts and then can’t offer help to the lifeguard who slips and breaks her ankle.

Don’t worry, there’s no actual nudity in this clip

Or there’s always the fight scene at the apartments during which one male steals someone’s iPod after punching him in the face.

Watch the opening beatdown and ensuing party in this feature “Some Crazy Party”

If you’re not yet impressed, watch “FU OC,” a few students’ clever take on the drama and pettiness associated with the hit television show, “The OC.”

Watch the preview for Fairfield’s next obsession

It’s a bit like one of those impossibl funny “MAD TV” skits, set to the tune of Phantom Planet’s “California.”

Lastly, there is a video entitled “Mr. Loyola Cup.” Watch as several guys race to the finish line in Loyola Hall. The clever editing makes it seem as though the students are all sitting on scooters.

See the exciting finish and find out who won for yourself

But if you look closely, they’re actually not. The winner of this unique contest is deemed “Mr. Loyola.”

I’m impressed, Fairfielders. Keep up with those videos. And if you’re lacking in ideas, do me a favor and see paragraph one again.
