Move over American Idol! The singing young women of Fairfield University’s A cappella group dazzled the crowd with their grand performance during their ‘Beats of Bellarmine Concert’ on Sunday April 26.

The weather, appropriate for a summer wedding, did not disappoint as it brought in a small gathering of people that quickly grew as the group was about to begin.

The soft summer breeze coming through the netting of the doors created an atmosphere of grandeur and sophistication that was even more elevated by the beauty of the performers who were dressed in clothes ready to impress.

The show began with the traditional ‘Star Spangled Banner,’ but quickly transformed into a performance made for the young crowd. As parents cheered on and continued to show pride in the performance of their daughters, friends and peers clapped on and continued to demand more of the excitement.

‘Hold On For One More Day’ by Wilson Phillips and ‘Holiday in Spain’ by Counting Crows were a few of the selections sung by the performers, but the crowd’s favoritism was especially apparent from the roaring claps after performances such as ‘Love Song’ by Sarah Bareilles sung by Daniela Caso ’09 and Kim Smith.

‘It was awesome and I am totally impressed; they were very talented young ladies,’ said Denise Hurdelbrink, a guest at the event.

Her comment was a reflection of crowds’ enjoyment during the performance.

These young women performed all semester in their group meetings as a preparation of this big event.

They expressed their personal enjoyments of the time they had together and all the laughter they enjoyed with each other.

Christine Dunkely, also known as Bermuda by the group, said ‘I enjoyed myself a lot. We are all good friends and had a good time.’

After the big event the performers gathered for a group picture on the sunny balcony outside as the crowd of people helped themselves to beverages and snacks. These pictures, and the roses given to graduating seniors, signaled the group’s return to their families who congratulated their terrific performance.
