Einstein Bros. has the best bagels in town, and after having them, you won’t go near a Barone bagel ever again. Not only do they have freshly made classics like sesame and everything, they have chocolate chip, “power bagels,” and “top shelf” bagels that include six cheese and spinach Florentine. Want to buy a dozen bagels to share with your friends? No problem! Einstein’s gives you an extra bagel and throws in free cream cheese! It’s also conveniently located near Starbucks. On the weekend, you might have to wait over 20 minutes, but it will be worth it. The wait is better than driving an hour to New York, because you won’t find a good bagel anywhere else around.

Worst? Dunkin’ Donuts: 593 Post Road, Fairfield • 255-3366

There is a reason this place isn’t called Dunkin’ Bagels. Besides Barone and the supermarket prepackaged bagels, Dunkin’ Donuts has the worst! Go to Dunkin’ Donuts for coffee or for a doughnut, but never for a bagel! You are better off spreading cream cheese on a doughtnut or muffin, that’s how bad these bagels are. They are too puffy, they don’t have that glossy bagel look and they taste sugary. Half of the time they are stale and look like they’ve been sitting on that same shelf for at least a week. What they sell at Dunkin’ Donuts can’t even be considered a bagel. If you go to Dunkin’, stick to its coffee and doughnuts.
