They Might Be Giants performed at Toad’s Place in New Haven last Wednesday. Toad’s Place once again provided a great atmosphere, enabling the audience to get extremely close to one of my favorite bands.

They Might Be Giants say their shows are only for drunks and kids, and they’re right. The show, although only an hour and a half long, was packed with energized antics and whimsical, sometimes warped music. The energy of the crowd reflected the positive energy of the band, and the Giants played off this to get everyone involved in the show.

Highlights included a slower, almost dramatic rendition of “Particle Man,” a brief accordion duet of “She’s an Angel” from their first release and “New York City,” “Doctor Worm” and “Birdhouse in Your Soul” for an encore. They also played a ten-minute medley-esque version of “Fingertips”.

The concert itself was flawed only in that it was too short. They Might Be Giants hardly disappoints, and this is no exception.
