Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, many of you fellows are probably wondering where to take that special lady.

Well, if you’re up for a sushi date and only have a few bucks to spare, I would definitely recommend Shiki Hana, located at 222 Post Road.

It is a cute little secluded place with a serene environment. This can be the perfect place to begin your intimate night and engage in some deep conversations.

The seats are rather comfy and there is just something about the place that makes you feel relaxed throughout your entire experience.

If you want something to munch on while deciding on your entrée, I would suggest ordering an appetizer of edamame, which are Japanese soybeans. They are not only delicious and addicting, but nutritious as well.

The avocado salad is also terrific. It has avocado, crispy lettuce, and carrots, and is accompanied by a refreshing ginger dressing.

The edamame is a great start before sushi.

For the sushi, Shiki Hana provides you with a wide assortment to choose from. They have sushi rolls I have never even heard of, such as the American Dream Roll, the Manhattan Roll, the Tiger Roll, the Sweetheart Roll, and the Sex Roll. You even have the option to create your own!

They also have other rolls like the Sweet Potato Roll, the Kiwi, Strawberry, Mango Roll, and the Asparagus Roll.

I am not really a sushi lover due to the fact that most sushi is filled with raw fish and you can taste the seaweed, but I do love the California Roll. I encourage those of you who aren’t sushi fans to try it because it is made inside-out, making it easier to bite into. It contains imitation crab meat, avocado, and masago (fish eggs). I prefer having it made with brown rice instead of white rice, and the outside layer of rice is usually sprinkled with toasted sesame seeds.

Shiki Hana also provides you with low sodium soy sauce and forks upon request, if you are unable to use the chopsticks with your sushi.

A look at the hibachi area of Shiki Hana.

For their entrees, there is everything from Chicken Teriyaki to Filet Mignon Teriyaki. Shiki Hana also has Hibachi, and you can choose to have a variety of things like salmon, chicken, or shrimp, or any combination like Beef and Chicken or Scallop and Shrimp. The Hibachi entrees are served with peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, rice, and your choice of soup or salad.

Guys, if you want to get a better deal, take your date out to lunch and order from the lunch special box. For $8.00, you can have an entrée served with rice, soup, salad, California rolls, and dumplings.

For dessert, Shiki Hana offers ice cream, exotic tempuras like banana tempura, and also some creative drinks.

So if you want to have a laid-back dinner with your latest fling, or you’re dateless and just want to hideout with your best friend, Shiki Hana is the place to go.

As Thomas Pojero ‘11 says, “This is by far the best place in Fairfield to get sushi, so men, start the night right!”
